Smythe’s practice revolves around the interrogation of the photographic image and the site of display. The contexts of Smythe’s installations are integral to his photographic documentation and recording process.
Smythe frequently draws on pre-existing material found in the public realm, appropriating the site with his own, mostly narrative based imagery.
Michael Smythe graduated from Der Hochschule Der Kunst, Berlin and currently lives and works in London.
