
Song Cycle was devised & produced in Australia during the summer of 2010. The piece explores the ongoing relevance of song in contemporary Australian indigenous communities.
The project title is derived from the indigenous tradition of Song Lines, referring to the use of song for understanding & respectfully navigating the land. Australian indigenous culture is based upon an oral tradition where stories & songs are handed down from one generation to another. For this project, Coates’ received instruction from Wiradjuri Elders in Western New South Wales.
